Former Pakistan cricketer Misbah-ul-Haq opened up on the scoop shot he played in the inaugural T20 World Cup final against India in 2007.

The 2007 final saw a dramatic end as India won the match by five runs after Gautam Gambhir played a stupendous 75-run knock in the first innings.

India gave a target of 158 runs after the Indian batting line-up displayed a stellar performance. Rohit Sharma too took part in the T20 World Cup and scored 30 runs from 16 balls.

In the second innings, RP Singh took three wickets in his four-over spell and gave away 26 runs. Irfan Pathan too took three wickets and gave away 13 runs in his four-over spell. S Sreesanth picked a single wicket in his four-over spell.

However, Joginder Sharma will always be known for his final over spell when he dismissed Misbah-ul-Haq on the third ball of the final over which helped India to get hold of the trophy.

In the last four balls of the second innings, Pakistan needed six runs when Misbah-ul-Haq tried to play a scoop shot to send the ball over the fine leg but due to lack of power it landed on S Sreesanth’s palms and the pacer made no mistake to take it.

Following the match, Misbah’s shot was the most common topic in everyone’s mouth and will always be remembered by the cricket fans of the two neighboring nations, India and Pakistan.

While speaking at Shoaib Malik in ‘Master Class With Malik’ on A Sports, Misbah-ul-Haq revealed that everyone told him that was the wrong time to pick that shot and accepted that there was no power on the shot due to which Sreesanth was able to take the catch and said that the execution of the shot was wrong.

“People always told me that was a wrong option. Okay pace was not there , that I get it. But It was a wrong execution,” Misbah-ul-Haq said.

I could have easily cleared that fine leg fielder: Misbah-ul-Haq

The former Pakistan player Misbah-ul-Haq said that if one has watched the video one would notice that he cramped while making room and that is why the ball ballooned in the air.

“If you see the video again, you can notice that I was cramped for room and that’s why it ballooned up in the air. If I could have reached to the ball, I could have easily cleared that fine leg fielder,” Misbah-ul-Haq added.

In the upcoming days, India will take on Pakistan again in the Asia Cup 2023 on Saturday (September 2nd) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka.
