Captain Rohit Sharma has made it clear that Team India won't be taking Pakistan lightly even though they suffered a loss against the USA in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

India and Pakistan will be taking on each other in the 19th game of the ongoing World Cup on Sunday (June 9) at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Pakistan's confidence will be extremely low following a string of poor results in recent times.

They came into the World Cup after losing a T20I against Ireland before suffering a 2-0 loss against England. And their miseries were further compounded after the dismal loss against the USA earlier this week. The USA pretty much outplayed Pakistan to register the famous win.

While form and momentum are definitely not with Pakistan, Rohit Sharma knows very well that the Men in Green have the ability to turn things around quickly as he said that the past performance won't have a big impact in the upcoming game.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, the India star recalled Pakistan's campaign in the last T20 World Cup when they made it to the final even after losing against India as well as Zimbabwe. Pakistan were on the verge of getting knocked out of the tournament following the loss against Zimbabwe but turned around their campaign in style to storm into the final.

"They lost to Zimbabwe last time but still they made it to the final. This is a different format. It matters on that particular day. They will surely look at where they went wrong," said Rohit Sharma.

"We have been playing against them in recent past unlike previously where there used to be one game after every four years. You can’t think too far ahead. Game changes every over," he added.

India eye crucial win:

While Pakistan started their campaign with a loss, India started theirs with a fine 8-wicket win over Ireland. A win over Pakistan will put India in a commanding position for a place in the Super 8s stage. On the other hand, a loss will make things complicated and might put India in a position where they will need to win every game for a place in the next round.
