IND vs PAK: 'Pakistan's loss against USA has made the group very dangerous,' claims Irfan Pathan

Former India allrounder Irfan Pathan has said USA's win over Pakistan has made Group A 'very dangerous'. The USA stunned their fancied opponents in the 11th game of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to send shockwaves across the cricketing world.

While the result would be called an upset by many, the USA looked the better team for most part of the game. They did not really let Pakistan off the hook while bowling before doing well with the bat as well. After the scores were tied, the USA showed remarkable composure in the Super Over as well to clinch a monumental win.

With the win, the USA have climbed to the top spot in the point table of Group A which also features Pakistan, India, Ireland, and Canada. Before beating Pakistan, USA had registered an emphatic 7-wicket victory over Canada by chasing down 195 runs in less than 18 overs.

India are in the second spot with one win from one game while Pakistan, Canada, and Ireland are yet to open their account. While many were expecting India and Pakistan to progress to the Super 8s easily, Irfan Pathan believes the situation is completely different now.

Speaking on Star Sports, Irfan Pathan said that the USA's win over Pakistan has made the group very dangerous and every game is now crucial. The former cricketer-turned-commentator stated that while India are likely to progress ahead, there is little clarity over the second team. Two teams from each group will be qualifying for the Super 8s stage.

"We won against Ireland while Pakistan lost the match against the USA. Now it will become extremely crucial for Pakistan to win their remaining matches. For us, it’s a relief. The next match between Ireland and Canada will also be very crucial. This group has become very dangerous from that perspective.

"India will advance. You would expect India to beat Pakistan, win the next two matches as well, and remain in a strong position. Which other team will make it through? Suddenly, many teams are in contention," said Irfan Pathan before going on to praise the USA for their commanding display against Pakistan.

Pakistan's next game is against India and is scheduled to be played on Sunday (June 9). A loss against India would definitely put them in danger of elimination from the T20 World Cup. On the other hand, a win for Pakistan would make the group even more interesting. 

USA will be taking on India in their next game on June 12 and will be looking to extend their winning start in the tournament.
