Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa predicted that the Rohit Sharma-led team will clinch the title in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. Robin Uthappa emphasised that the Indian team is expected to dominate Pakistan in all three matches of the tournament, including the final.

The Rohit Sharma-led team failed to qualify for the final during last year’s Asia Cup. The Men in Blue suffered losses against Pakistan and Sri Lanka during the Super Four stage of the tournament. However, India defeated the Babar Azam-led team in the group stage.

They Are Not Going To Be Easy Games – Robin Uthappa

On the AakashVani show on JioCinema, Robin Uthappa said that India and Pakistan’s matches are likely to be closely fought in the upcoming Asia Cup.

“They (Pakistan) are a very good side. Their personnel are very skillful, very talented. Having said that, so are ours (India’s). I think it will make for two very good games and hopefully the third one as well,” Uthappa said.

“My prediction for the India-Pakistan games is always 3-0 to India. Having said that, they are not going to be easy games for the Indian squad,” he added.

India is set to face their archrivals in a Group A clash at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 2. The two teams could potentially meet again in the Super Four stage and even in the final if both teams manage to qualify.

It Just Prepares You Better – Abhishek Nayar

Former Indian cricketer Abhishek Nayar feels that the Asia Cup clash against Pakistan would serve as ideal preparation before the much-anticipated World Cup 2023 match between the teams.

“I think it’s a matter of habit. The more you play a team, the better you know them, the less the pressure and I feel it works both ways. But I also feel, just for the Indians, the more you play against them, especially their fast bowlers who are very unique and very different, it just prepares you better,” Nayar said.

“It prepares our bowlers to bowl against their batters. It’s always good to play a team a few times before you come up to such a big match in Ahmedabad, the World Cup game that’s happening in India in Ahmedabad,” he added.

The Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam-led sides will lock horns at the world’s largest stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14.
