IND vs PAK: Rohit Sharma Says His Legacy Is For The Outer World To Judge

India captain Rohit Sharma has said that he does think about having any legacy in Indian cricket as he gears up for arguably the most important phase of his career. He will be leading India in the upcoming Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup in the coming days.
The right-handed batsman is one of India’s most decorated openers and would bow out of the game as a great. Rohit Sharma made his debut for India during the 2007 T20 World Cup as a middle-order batsman and played a key role in the team’s historic triumphant campaign.
After being in and out of the team for years, he was promoted as an opener in 2013 and has not looked back since then. So far, he has hit 44 centuries and 93 half-centuries in international cricket and has scored over 17000 runs across the three formats.
Rohit Sharma on his legacy:
While Rohit Sharma has definitely created his own legacy thanks to his batting achievements, he does not care about it much. Ahead of the team’s departure to Sri Lanka for Asia Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma was asked whether he thinks about his own legacy in Indian cricket after being around for 16 years.
In reply, Rohit Sharma said: “No. I am not the person who thinks about what kind of legacy I will leave behind. My legacy will be for people to judge and talk about. Not for me to say.”
“I am not a firm believer in numbers. You should be happy and enjoy the time you have in-front of you, and try to live in that kind of moment. I am thinking about what gives me happiness.
“For me, it’s all about creating memories and creating a good rapport with my teammates. Be happy in whatever you get and whatever you have,” he added.
Rohit Sharma might not think about his legacy but he will have a chance to create a historic legacy in the coming days. He could become just the third captain from India to lead the team to an ODI World Cup. So far, only Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni have managed to achieve the feat. Before leading India in the World Cup, he will lead the team in the Asia Cup, scheduled to start on August 30.
