Rohit Sharma has refuted the notion that competing in the World Cup with home fans is a disadvantage. With India set to lock horns against arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday (October 14), many have stated that the hosts will be under pressure due to playing at home in front of the local fans.
The match is scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the largest cricket stadium in the world. Ahead of the game, Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali has stated that India will be under pressure due to playing at home. Many experts have also opined that playing in front of the home fans could be a disadvantage for Team India.
However, Rohit Sharma believes otherwise. Speaking on the eve of the India vs Pakistan clash, the India skipper stated that the fans will support the team in any situation. He also said that the Indian team gets good support from the fans wherever it plays.
“There is no disadvantage. The home fans get behind you regardless of the situation. We get massive support wherever we go. I look at this as a big advantage. It boils down to playing good cricket and do whatever it takes to win the match,” Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma-led India look to extend record:
Team India will be looking to extend their winning record against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup. India and Pakistan have faced each other seven times in the competition and the former have ended up on the winning side on all the occasions. Rohit Sharma was part of the last two wins over Pakistan in the World Cup and will be desperate to lead the team to another famous win.
Both India and Pakistan have made a strong start to their campaigns in the competition by winning their opening two games. Pakistan began their campaign with wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka while India have defeated Australia and Afghanistan.
