Key Indian players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and others are set to undergo a fitness test ahead of Asia Cup 2023. A fitness test will take place in Alur in Bengaluru where the fitness of these key Indian players will be analyzed.

Players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj are set to undergo the fitness. All these players were not part of the IND vs IRE T20I series.

Rohit Sharma And Other Key Players Were Advised To Undergo 13-Day Programme

During the fitness test, medical and fitness reports of all these players will be tested. Notably, players who were not part of the IND vs IRE T20I series were asked to undergo a fitness programme for 13 days from August 9-22.

During the programme, they are advised to follow a strict diet, exercise, and sleep routine. The 13-day programme focused on strength training, mobility, shoulder care and glute muscles.

Every player was asked to consume a certain amount of protein on a daily basis, and do gym sessions, walking, running, swimming, and yoga sessions. According to the profile of a player- batsman or bowler- they were given fixed drills to follow. They were also advised to get nine hours of sleep.

Now, the Alur fitness camp will assess the fitness of these players after the programme. The camp seeks that these players are fit for the next few months and not incur any injuries ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023.

“This is a special programme designed for players as we want them fit for the next two months. The trainer will come to know who has followed the programme and who hasn’t. The team management will then take a call on what to do with players who have not followed their programme,” a BCCI official told The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, Team India is set to play in the Asia Cup 2023. India will face Pakistan on September 2 in the opening game. Rohit Sharma is set to lead the team in the tournament. Asia Cup 2023 will witness the return of crucial ODI players like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah.
