IND vs PAK: Rohit Sharma Warns Chris Gayle Ahead Of India-Pakistan Clash, Says "I Want To Break Chris Gayle’s Six-Hitting Record"

India skipper Rohit Sharma warned Chris Gayle, the legendary West Indies cricketer, and said that he wants to break Gayle’s record for most sixes in international cricket.

Till now, Rohit Sharma has smashed 539 sixes in all the cricket formats and needs just 14 more sixes to beat Chris Gayle to take over the top position. In the next few months, Rohit Sharma’s side have a busy schedule as the ODI World Cup 2023 is also approaching. This means Rohit Sharma can achieve the feat sooner than later.

While speaking to Vimal Kumar in a candid interview, Rohit Sharma said that he wants to break the legendary West Indies player’s record and added that he never imagined he would break Chris Gayle’s record.

The 36-year-old India skipper accepted that he is not a muscle man but still likes to hit the ball hard by focusing on the timing.

“I want to break Chris Gayle’s six-hitting record. Never in my life I would have imagined that I will break Chris Gayle’s record. It’s funny (flex muscles). I am not a muscle guy but I like to hit the bowl hard. When I started playing cricket, I was told that timing is important. Aerial shots were a big no. We were told that you can play aerial shots. Basic was to keep your head intact, keep the bat close to your body and play the bowl along the carpet. If we used to play aerial shots, coach used to throw us out from the game,” Rohit Sharma said.

Rohit Sharma opened up on his relationship with India’s head coach Rahul Dravid, and said that he has huge respect for him because he is a great person and also a cricketer. The Men in Blue skipper further stated that the head coach doesn’t fail to communicate with the players and is a genuine guy.

“I have a huge respect for Rahul Dravid. First for the person he is and then the cricketer. Because being a good human comes first then you are a cricketer, a footballer or a doctor. He is a genuine guy. I didn’t get much chance to play with him but I now I have got the opportunity to work with him in the past two years. He didn’t like to have a communciation gap with any player or support staff. His simple rule is to communicate with everyone. We have an open relationship. I have enjoyed my time with Rahul bhai. He is passing his knowledge about cricket to everyone,” Rohit Sharma added.

In the upcoming Super Four match of the Asia Cup 2023, India will square off against Pakistan on Sunday (September 10th) at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
