Pakistan’s Director of Cricket Mickey Arthur gave a shocking statement after his side suffered a 7-wicket thrashing against India in the ICC World Cup 2023. The Babar Azam-led side were completely outplayed in match 12 of the tournament at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
It was a sea of blue at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Stadium was jam-packed as all the spectators were supporting India. When the Men in Blue were on top, the stadium was buzzing and when at one stage Pakistan were at the top, there was utter dominance.
The crowd was right behind the Indian team as they displayed sensational performance with bat and ball. The Rohit Sharma-led side batted and bowled staggeringly well and won the game by 7 wickets to register their third consecutive win of the ICC World Cup 2023.
After the loss, Mickey Arthur took a dig at the Indian team, saying that it didn’t seem they were playing an ICC event. He pointed out that it looked like a BCCI event as he didn’t hear any slogs for Pakistan. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Mickey Arthur explained:
“It didn’t seem like an ICC event tonight – let’s be brutally honest. It seemed like a bilateral series or a BCCI event. I didn’t hear Dil Dil Pakistan coming through the mics too often. That does play a role, but I won’t use it as an excuse.”
IND vs PAK: It did not feel like a World Cup game – Pakistan head coach Grant Bradburn echoes Mickey Arthur’s views
Pakistan head coach Grant Bradburn was on the same page with Mickey Arthur. He said that it didn’t feel like a World Cup game as their supporters weren’t present. He explained:
“Naturally that was going to be the case. We are really sad that our supporters aren’t here, they would love be here and I am sure Indian cricket fans would love our supporters here as well. It was certainly unusual in that way, no familiar music for us today. So it did not feel like a World Cup game, honestly. We didn’t expect anything else. We love the occasion and we are disappointed that we did not do justice to the occasion or justice to our many fans at home and globally.”
Pakistan were put into bat first and they were bundled out for just 191 runs. Skipper Babar Azam (50) and Mohammad Rizwan (49) were the top scorers rest all failed. With the ball, they were poor as Rohit Sharma (86) smashed them all over the park.
