Right-handed batsman, KL Rahul has been out of the squad for almost three months after he suffered an injury during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

While fielding the LSG skipper met with a thigh injury which immediately pushed him out of the field later KL Rahul went through surgery and failed to make it into the India squad for several months.

KL Rahul went through his rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru along with Shreyas Iyer, who was also out from the squad for almost six months due to injury.

Due to the snub of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, India suffered with their middle-order and many batsmen auditioned for the number four and five spot but no one could make runs at that position.

However, both Rahul and Iyer have made it into the Asia Cup 2023 squad after completing their fitness training at NCA and this will certainly bring relief to the team management ahead of the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup 2023.

Meanwhile, while announcing the 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023, India chief selector Ajit Agarkar made a major statement that might make the cricket fans worry again.

Agarkar said that Shreyas Iyer is a match fit and has no other issues. But KL Rahul received another small niggle during the first practice for which he could not feature in the next one.

The chief selector added that he can come back in the first eleven after the second or third match and due to Rahul’s discomfort, Sanju Samson will be traveling with the squad as a backup player.

“Shreyas Iyer is completely fit. Rahul still has a different niggle and hence Sanju Samson has been named as backup. But KL Rahul is on track to be 100% fit,” Ajit Agarkar said on KL Rahul during press conference on Monday (August 21st).

Meanwhile, the former BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly opened up on the right-handed batsman’s injury and said that Rahul is fully fit.

“He’s fit, not injured anymore,” Sourav Ganguly said at an event.

Rohit Sharma-led India will take on Babar Azam’s Pakistan in their opening fixture of the tournament on Saturday (September 2nd) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka.
