Former Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Kamran Akmal strongly criticized the Babar Azam-led team after their defeat against the United States of America (USA) in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Kamran Akmal described the loss in the Super Over as "the biggest" insult for the Pakistan national cricket team.

The United States of America stunned Pakistan with a remarkable victory in Dallas on Thursday, June 6. The home team outplayed the Pakistan team in all three departments throughout the match. The Men in Green failed to chase down the 19-run target in the Super Over in their T20 World Cup opening match.

There Can't Be A Bigger Insult Than This - Kamran Akmal

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Kamran Akmal lauded the USA for their exceptional performance, stating that they played like a higher-ranked team. The former cricketer said that the USA deserved to win because they played better cricket than Pakistan.

"The biggest insult for Pakistan cricket is losing the game in the Super Over. There can't be a bigger insult than this. The USA played exceptionally well. They didn't feel like a low-ranked side. It felt like they were ranked above Pakistan. That is the level of maturity they showed," Akmal said.

"They deserved to win because they played better cricket than us. The face of our cricket has been revealed. It shows how we are taking our cricket forward," he added.

Left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar provided an early breakthrough for his team by dismissing Mohammad Rizwan in the second over. The Pakistan team lost the wickets of Usman Khan and Fakhar Zaman inside five overs. They managed to score just 30 runs for the loss of three wickets in the powerplay.

Babar Azam (44 runs off 43 balls) and Shadab Khan (40 off 25) rescued the team with a 72-run partnership off 48 balls for the fourth wicket. Babar failed to accelerate in the latter stages of the match. Iftikhar Ahmed (18 off 14) and Shaheen Afridi (23 off 16) helped the Pakistan team reach a decent total of 159 runs.

This Day Will Never Be Forgotten - Kamran Akmal

Kamran Akmal stated that it would be fine if they lost against big teams like England. The 42-year-old emphasized that this defeat would never be forgotten in Pakistan cricket. Akmal pointed out that the United States of America hasn't played so many matches.

"It is a shameful performance from the Pakistan cricket team. If they lose against big teams like England, it is fine. If they lose after giving a good fight to the opposition, it is fine. But losing against a team who haven't played so many matches," Akmal further said.

"What is shameful about the defeat is firstly drawing the game and then losing in the Super Over. This day will never be forgotten," he concluded.

Pakistan had the advantage in the game at one point when the USA needed 15 runs to win in the final over. Haris Rauf narrowed the equation to five runs required from the last delivery. However, Nitish Kumar smashed a boundary off the final delivery, forcing a Super Over where Pakistan fell short by five runs.
