India captain Rohit Sharma has opened up on his trademark pull-shot ahead of leading Team India in the highly-anticipated Asia Cup 2023. The continental championship is scheduled to start on August 30 while Team India will leave for Sri Lanka on Tuesday (August 29).

Talking about shots, a number of great players have a signature shot such as Sachin Tendulkar’s signature shot is the straight-drive while MS Dhoni is known for his helicopter shot. Similarly, Rohit Sharma is known for his pull shot, a shot that he arguably plays better than any batsman in the world right now.

The right-handed batsman has been playing his trademark shot right from the beginning and still depends a lot on it to play aggressive shots. The same shot has also been the reason for his dismissal on a number of occasions but it has not stopped Rohit Sharma from playing the shot whenever he gets the opportunity.

Rohit Sharma on pull-shot:

Ahead of the Asia Cup, Rohit Sharma was asked how much he practices the pull in the nets against throwdown experts. In reply, the India star said that he does not do any specific training for the pull shot, but he revealed that he put in a lot of hard work in his early days to improve his shot-making.

“There is no specific training I do to play that shot. Nobody knows about the work I did before that. Raghu (Raghvendra), Nuwan (Senaviratne) and Daya (Garani) have all come in recent years and I have been playing this shot for a long time,” said Rohit Sharma while referring to the three support staff members.

“I have worked on this shot since U-17 and U-19 days. Now I don’t practice this shot specifically during the training. If I find a ball pitched short, I play the pull. The bowlers are not just going to bowl short, so during training I tell bowlers to bowl everything in a manner they want,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will be looking to lead India to victory in the upcoming Asia Cup. India last won the tournament in 2018 and incidentally, Rohit Sharma was the captain at that time. India will open their campaign on September 2 against Pakistan.
