Team India batting coach Vikram Rathour has opened up on Indian batsmen’s performance against Pakistani pacers on Saturday (September 2nd) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. The former player said that there is nothing like that the Indian batsmen can’t face Shaheen Afridi-led Pakistani pacers, adding the conditions were altogether ‘different’ in Kandy.
In the third match of the Asia Cup 2023, India struggled in front of the Men in Green fast bowlers. Shaheen Afridi dismissed the Indian top batting order, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja.
However, after the first inning rain started to pour down, and the match was cancelled with no result.
While speaking to the reporters, Vikram Rathour accepted that Pakistan had a good bowling attack and the conditions were very different when India faced their arch-rivals.
Vikram Rathour further praised the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blues for handling it well in the match even when the rain interrupted the game.
“Of course, they are a good bowling attack. The conditions were different in the game against Pakistan. The wicket was doing something when the new ball was into the play and there was a rain interruption as well which the batters usually don’t like to have. But we managed to recover after losing early wickets, which is a good sign,” the former player said.
The day we get a good start, our batters are also capable of putting up a big score: Vikram Rathour
The former player said that the Men in Green pacer will have the better edge but once India gets a better start, the team is capable of scoring big runs.
“It’s nothing like that we can’t play them. They have a good bowling attack and on certain days, they will have the edge. But the day we get a good start, our batters are also capable of putting up a big score,” Rathour added.
India confirmed their Super Four spot in the Asia Cup 2023 after thrashing Nepal by 10 wickets. In the second inning, the target was lowered by the DLS method since the rain stopped the match for a long time.
In the upcoming Super Four game, Rohit Sharma-led India will lock horns against Babar Azam’s Pakistan once again on Sunday (September 10th) at R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
