Virat Kohli has started his campaign in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in a fine fashion. He has scored half-centuries in both games so far.

In India’s World Cup opener against Australia, the former captain played a brilliant knock of 85 runs to lay the foundation for the win. Chasing a modest total of 200 runs, India were in all sorts of trouble after being reduced to 2 for 3 inside two overs. However, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul shared a decisive stand of 165 runs for the fourth wicket to seal the game for the hosts.

Virat Kohli had the chance to open his campaign with a century but he fell short by 15 runs. His hard-fought 85-run knock came off 116 balls and contained six fours. In the second game which was against Afghanistan, he walked out to bat when India were in a comfortable position.

Chasing 273, India were on 156 for 1 in less than 19 overs when the right-handed batsman joined captain Rohit Sharma in the middle. He went on to score an unbeaten fifty to take India home comfortably. The India no.3 remained unbeaten on 55 off 56 balls with the help of 6 fours.

Virat Kohli eyes another milestone:

Virat Kohli will be looking to make the most of his form in the upcoming mega clash between India and Pakistan. The high-voltage clash is scheduled to be played on Saturday (October 14) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The game will also give him an opportunity to add yet another feather to his cap. Virat Kohli has the chance to break into the top five for the highest run-scorers in the World Cup. He is currently in the eighth spot. The former India captain needs only 38 runs to become the fifth-highest run-scorer in the World Cup.

Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar currently holds the record for scoring the most runs in the competition. Tendulkar, who played in a record six World Cups, scored 2278 runs in 45 games. He is followed by Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Brian Lara, and AB de Villiers in the top five. Shakib Al Hasan and Chris Gayle are also ahead of Virat Kohli.
