Former Indian captain Virat Kohli enjoys a significant global fan following, including admirers in neighbouring country Pakistan. Virat Kohli’s performances and success are also celebrated and appreciated by cricket enthusiasts in Pakistan, despite the strained relations between the two countries.
One such incident took place during the much-awaited match between the two teams during the Asia Cup 2023 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 2. A female fan travelled from Pakistan to Kandy to witness Virat Kohli’s batting performance live at the stadium.
Not A Bad Thing To Love Your Neighbours – Fan Girl
In a video shared by a user on X (formerly known as Twitter), an unnamed girl expressed her admiration for Virat Kohli, and it quickly went viral on social media. She revealed that Kohli is her favourite player and that she had come to the stadium to watch him live in action.
She went on to say that she was expecting the ace Indian batter to score a century in the high-octane match against Pakistan. She was heartbroken as the batter was dismissed for a low score off Pakistan left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi’s bowling in the 7th over of the innings.
“Chacha, padosiyon se pyaar karna koi buri baat toh nahi hai (Uncle, it’s not a bad thing to love your neighbours). I came only for Virat Kohli, I expected a century from him. My heart is broken,” she said.

The Execution From Virat Kohli Was Not Good – Wasim Jaffer
Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer said that Virat Kohli played a poor shot, which led to his dismissal for just 4 runs off 7 balls.
“He tried to play with an angled bat towards third man. The ball stopped a bit and then he got that inside edge. Maybe if he would have played it straighter, the dismissal might not have taken place,” Jaffer said.
Virat Kohli will be next seen in action when the Rohit Sharma-led team takes on Nepal in the second and final group stage match at the same venue on Monday, September 4.
