The result of Team India stars’ Yo-Yo test has raised a number of eyebrows. Before leaving for Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma and his teammates underwent the mandatory fitness tests as they took the dreaded Yo-Yo test.

Shubman Gill impressed one and all by finishing with the best score. The young opener achieved a top score of 18.7 and comfortably beat the required threshold of 16.5. While no player failed the mandatory test, the scores of some players have become the talk of the town. The major takeaway has been Virat Kohli’s score.

One of the fittest cricketers in the world, the former India skipper took to Instagram to reveal his score. Posting a selfie, Virat Kohli revealed that his score was 17.2, way less than his personal best score of 19. As soon as he revealed the score, the fans began expressing their concerns, with many saying that the batting superstar might not be fully fit.

Salman Butt explains the reason behind Virat Kohli’s Yo-Yo test score; takes a dig at Rohit Sharma

While not many know the reason behind Virat Kohli’s score, former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt has come up with a theory to explain the same. The former cricketer stated that Virat Kohli might have wanted just to clear the benchmark and preserve his energy for the rest of the training camp. Butt further said that youngsters like to exceed the limits and the same must have happened with Shubman Gill.

“I’ll tell you one thing. When a player reaches a certain age and he knows what the required limit is, he would simply cross it and be done with it. In the Pakistan team, we were also taking part in these fitness tests. The youngsters had this craze of pushing the limits.

“The seniors, no matter how fit they are, just try to cross the benchmark and let it be. They don’t try to push further because it also creates unnecessary expectations,” Butt said on his official YouTube channel.

“Someone like Shan has crossed 20 score in Yo Yo Tests. Shadab also reached 19. We don’t know how much they pushed. I remember our 2-4 bowlers who would reach 18 or 18.5 and decide among themselves to stop pushing further. You complete the benchmark and preserve your energy,” he added.

Speaking further, Butt also took a dig at India skipper Rohit Sharma. Criticising Rohit’s fitness, Butt stated that the India captain has not worked hard on his fitness. He also compared his and Kohli’s appearance, saying:

“Yo Yo is not the only benchmark, though. You see his gymwork, his ethics. You see his shots, the two shots he hit against Haris Rauf in World Cup last year… not much time has gone by. Rohit Sharma didn’t work as hard as he should have. He was a great talent but he didn’t take care of his fitness. You just have to see both of their appearances.”

Meanwhile, Team India are currently in Sri Lanka for the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. They will open their campaign on Saturday (September 2) against Pakistan.
