As 2023 comes to a close, former India fast-bowler Venkatesh Prasad has underscored the series of missed opportunities for Team India in the concluding year.
Team India started the year in style by dominating Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the limited-overs series at home. However, the victories over Sri Lanka and New Zealand did not foreshadow what was to come. It was followed by the Test series win over Australia but India???s performance was not really up to the mark or dominating.
The Men in Blue then lost the ODI series against Australia before losing the ICC World Test Championship final against the same opposition. India then won the Test and the ODI series against West Indies before losing the T20I series. It was followed by a series win in Ireland before Rohit Sharma & Co. won the Asia Cup and an ODI series against Australia at home.
Venkatesh Prasad reflects on India???s missed opportunities in 2023:
A second-string Indian team also won a historic gold medal at the Asian Games. In the all-important World Cup, India enjoyed a stunning run to the final before losing the title decider against Australia. It was followed by an ODI series win in South Africa before suffering a crushing defeat in the first Test in Centurion.
As the years drew to a close, Venkatesh Prasad took to X to highlight the missed opportunities and hoped that the upcoming year will break the championship jinx persisting for over a decade. Extending his best wishes to Team India for success in the coming year and beyond, he wrote:
???It???s been a year of ???What could have been??? for Team India. Dominated the World Cup only to have a very bad day when it mattered in the finals. Lost the WTC finals as well. Travis Head was brilliant in both these games.
???Hope in the coming year, India starts winning Championships which has alluded them for more than a decade now. Wishing the best for Team India in the coming year and always,??? added Venkatesh Prasad.

Team India are currently in South Africa where they will play one more Test before returning home. India are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan before welcoming England for a five-match Test series.
