Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs lashed out at Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma for his fitness. He while targeting the current Test captain took a dig at the Indian team as well, saying that even the Rohit Sharma-led side are better than the Proteas team.

South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma got injured during the Day 1 of the ongoing Test between India and Proteas. The Boxing Day game between the teams is taking place at the Supersport Park in Centurion.

Temba Bavuma pulled up his hamstring and walked off the field. He injured himself in the first session as he tried to chase the ball and then was seen limping. The skipper then went for scans and then it was revealed that he had a strain in his left hamstring.

Temba Bavuma didn???t take part in the game on Day 1 after getting injured and his further participation in the game will depend on the medical assessment every day. The Test skipper has had his injury concerns for a while. He recently got injured in the World Cup as well and missed a few games.

Teamba Bavuma???s injury didn???t go well with Herschelle Gibbs. The former Proteas player lashed out at the skipper, saying that he???s surprised to see how the coach allows an overweight and unfit player in the team.

???Ironic that the coach allows some players who are clearly unfit and overweight to play when he started off as proteas trainer in 2009,??? he wrote on X.

Herschelle Gibbs posted another tweet, saying that even India are fitter than the current South Africa team. He lauded Virat Kohli for making the team fit. He explained:

???Hate my ass even India are fitter than us now .. simply coz Virat installed the fitness mindset.???

Virat Kohli notably is the fittest cricketer in the world. When he took charge of the Indian Test team, he brought a new culture into the team. Under him team became the fittest in the world and are currently the best in the world, thanks to Virat.

IND vs SA: In the absence of Temba Bavuma, South Africa end Day 1 on high

South Africa dominated the Day 1 of the ongoing Test against India. They restricted the visitors to a total of 208/8 at the end of the first day. Putting the opposition into bat, Kagiso Rabada took the team off the flier, as he removed Rohit Sharma (5) early and Nadre Burger chipped in as well.

The debutant removed Yashasvi Jaiswal (18) and Shubman Gill (2) to put India on the back. After that, Virat Kohli (38) and Shreyas Iyer (31) played well and bailed the side out of trouble. However, in the absence of Temba Bavuma, Dean Elgar marshaled the troops well.

Kagiso Rabada picked the fifer and put India on the back foot. It seemed that they would get out early. But KL Rahul (70*) held the fort and played a blinder. He slammed an unbeaten half-century and kept India alive in the game. Shardul Thakur (24) supported him well but lost his wicket early.

KL Rahul would be hoping that he gets a ton tomorrow and takes India to the big total in the first innings.
