The second Test between India and South Africa at the Newlands Park in Cape Town achieved an unwanted record. The series decider between the teams became the shortest Test match in the history of cricket, surpassing the Melbourne Test between Australia and South Africa.

The Cape Town pitch for the second Test was a nightmare for batters. The match got over in just 1 and half days and only 4 and a half sessions were possible. The Rohit Sharma-led side won the game and emerged victorious by 7 wickets, leveling the series 1-1.

In the first innings, Indian bowlers bowled just 23.2 overs and bundled out South Africa for just 55 runs. Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers as picked six wickets. The batters had no clue as to what was about to come because the pitch had a lot of invariable bounce and pace.

The Rohit Sharma-led side too didn’t have a great outing with the bat as they got all out for just 153 runs. South Africa’s pacers looked unplayed and wrapped up the innings inside 35 overs. The pace trio of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and Nandre Burger picked three wickets each.

The second innings was no different as bowlers yet again had their say and wickets fell pretty quickly. India bundled out South Africa for 176 runs and took just 36.5 overs to wrap up the innings. Aiden Markam looked the only settle batter as he slammed a century whereas Jasprit Bumrah picked 6 wickets.

India had a target of 79 runs to chase. Their batter came out with positive intent but still, some balls were unplayable. The pitch had demons in it as even in chase the visitors lost 3 wickets but managed to win the game and draw the series 1-1.

The second Test between India and South Africa ended in just 642 balls, which is the shortest span of a game in the longest format of the cricket. It raised a lot of eyebrows and even skipper Rohit Sharma was critical of the pitch. Rohit said that he was fine playing on such pitches but people shouldn’t raise their voices when pitches turn on the first day in India.
