Former South Africa pace spearhead Dale Steyn has fired a warning to other teams after South Africa’s stunning win over Team India in the first Test. The Proteas inflicted a humiliating innings defeat on the Rohit Sharma-led side to take the lead in the two-match series.

It took South Africa less than three days to blow India away. The visitors were completely outclassed by South Africa as they crashed to an innings and 32 runs defeat at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Thursday (December 28). Right from toss till the end, everything fell into place for South Africa.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first. The South African bowlers completely justified the decision by bowling out India for just 245 despite a century from KL Rahul. At one stage, India were reeling at 121 for 6 and even the 200-run mark was looking like a distant dream. However, Rahul’s brilliant 101-run knock guided them to 245.

Dale Steyn warns India and other teams:

In reply, South Africa posted a big total of 408 runs despite their captain Temba Bavuma not being able to bat due to a hamstring injury. The star of the show was opener Dean Elgar as the southpaw scored 185. Marco Jansen also played a crucial knock of 84 not out while debutant David Bedingham scored 56 as South Africa took a big lead of 153 runs.

In their second innings, India were bowled out for just 131. Virat Kohli (76) was the only batter who showed some fight with the bat during the dismal performance. Apart from him, only Shubman Gill (26) managed to touch the double-digit mark.

Soon after the Test ended, Dale Steyn took to X to remind the opposition teams that South Africa was still without their injured pacer Anrich Nortje as he heaped praise on the team’s pace attack.

“Just a reminder, we still have Anrich Nortje in the wings. Proteas pace attack is looking SWEEEEEET!” wrote Dale Steyn.

Meanwhile, India captain Rohit Sharma admitted that his team was not good enough to win the game as he rued the bowlers’ failure to exploit the condition. He also expressed his disappointment over the batting performance in the second innings, saying:

“We were not good enough to win. Having been put into bat, KL batted well to get us that score but then we didn’t exploit the conditions with the ball and then again didn’t show up today with the bat.

“If we have to win Test matches, we have to come together collectively and we didn’t do that. Guys have come here before, we know what to expect and everyone has their own plan. Our batters were challenged and we didn’t adapt well.”
