Former Pakistan cricket team captain, Aamer Sohail, has showered accolades on the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side, claiming that he has never witnessed a more formidable Indian team. In the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the Indian team is on an unstoppable winning streak, having secured seven victories in as many matches. With this remarkable performance, they became the first team to confirm their place in the semi-finals of the World Cup.

The Men in Blue have been dominating the competition, winning all seven of their matches. With a total of 14 points, India’s swift progression to the semi-finals was a testament to their exceptional performance. Their latest achievement came with a resounding victory over Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where they won by a staggering 302-run margin. India posted a formidable total of 357 runs and then proceeded to dismiss the 1996 champions for just 55 runs in 19.4 overs.

In this remarkable victory, Mohammed Shami emerged as a standout performer, claiming five wickets for a mere 18 runs in five overs, while Mohammed Siraj contributed by taking three wickets. Aamer Sohail, who had served as Pakistan’s stand-in captain during the 1996 ODI World Cup quarter-final match against India, was quick to commend the team for their remarkable performance.

Speaking on Cricket Pakistan’s YouTube channel following India’s triumph over Sri Lanka, Sohail expressed, “To be honest, I have never seen such a strong Indian team. Let’s admit that. They have outclassed every team in this World Cup, progressing to the next round each time. They are consistently winning in a one-sided manner.”

Aamer Sohail Praises Indian Pace Attack

The former opening batter was particularly impressed by India’s pace trio, comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami. Sohail spoke highly of their exceptional skills and control on the field, stating, “The way fast bowling is happening, and the delight of watching the fast bowlers’ deliveries is outstanding. The way Bumrah is taking the ball away from the middle stump and extracting it from the edge of the crease with such control is incredible.

Then, look at Siraj. Shami has become an improved bowler. He has become even more dangerous than before, and his control is amazing. They trap the batsmen initially, bowling close to the stumps, and then they throw balls outside the off-stump to invite the batsmen and get them out.”

Mohammed Shami, who had been on the bench in the first four matches of the ODI World Cup 2023, has delivered outstanding performances in the last three fixtures, securing five, four, and five wickets, respectively.

With a total of 14 wickets in three matches, Shami is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, and his tally of 45 wickets in 14 matches across three editions of the World Cup establishes him as India’s all-time leading wicket-taker in the history of the 50-over mega-event. Men In Blue’s splendid run in the tournament has left the cricketing world in awe, and their momentum remains a powerful force as they approach the semi-finals.
