Indian captain Rohit Sharma equaled the massive record of AB de Villiers in the ODIs. The opening batter equaled the Proteas great for the most number of sixes in the calendar year in 50-over cricket.

Rohit Sharma achieved the feat in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 game against South Africa. The 37th match of the tournament is taking place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. India opted to bat first and it was a staggering start from the team with the skipper taking attack to bowlers.

Rohit scored 40 runs off just 24 balls. He batted with a strike rate of over 166 and smashed 6 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. With the 2 maximums, he completed 58 sixes in 2023. With the way, he’s batting, it’s fair to say that he can easily go past AB de Villiers.

Rohit Sharma also achieved another record to his name. He became the second batter after Brendon McCullum to score more than 250 runs during the powerplay in a single ODI World Cup edition. The Indian captain has been in a beast mode in this tournament and has made a mockery of the opposition.

Rohit perished to Kagiso Rabada for the 12th time in international cricket. This has been the most times in all International cricket he has been dismissed by any particular bowler.
