Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer has expressed gratitude that the Indian team doesn’t have to contend with the trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj in the opposition. This sentiment was shared following India’s resounding victory over Sri Lanka at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, where the Men in Blue registered a colossal 302-run win. India, after posting an imposing total of 357 runs while batting first, proceeded to bowl out Sri Lanka for a mere 55 runs, thanks to a remarkable performance from their pace bowlers.

The trio of Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj was nothing short of a nightmare for the Sri Lankan side, as they crumbled to 14/6 within the powerplay. Mohammed Shami turned in an exceptional performance, finishing with remarkable figures of 5-1-18-5. He dismissed both Dushan Hemantha and Dushmantha Chameera for ducks.

Jasprit Bumrah also made his mark by removing Pathum Nissanka for a golden duck, while Mohammed Siraj left a trail of destruction by dismissing Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis for single-digit scores, and Sadeera Samarawickrama for a duck.

Notably, in the Asia Cup final in September, Siraj had already displayed his prowess against the Sri Lankan batting lineup, capturing six wickets and restricting them to a meager 50 runs.

Shreyas Iyer Feels This Onslaught Was Better Than Asia Cup Finals

Shreyas Iyer, who had recently made a swift recovery from a back injury to join the Indian squad, was elated with the performance of the bowlers in the match against Sri Lanka. He described it as a surreal experience, highlighting the bowlers’ remarkable efforts and their ability to rise to the occasion.

Speaking about the current bowling attack, Iyer mentioned that he had observed their performance from the outside during the Asia Cup final. However, now that he was on the field, he acknowledged the sheer brilliance of the bowlers and their significant contribution to the team’s success.

“I think the current bowling attack, it’s pretty hard to say because, in the Asia Cup final, I was sitting out. From the outside, it was a bit different. But now playing on the field, I felt that today’s performance was surreal, especially of the bowlers, and the way they stood up to the occasion,” added Shreyas Iyer.

Shreyas Iyer’s journey to recovery from injury and his triumphant return to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has been a testament to his determination and hard work. His match-winning contribution played a crucial role in India’s qualification for the semi-finals. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged his own commitment to making a successful comeback to the team. As the Indian cricket team continues its quest for World Cup glory, Iyer’s return and the exceptional performance of the pace trio make them a formidable force to reckon with in the tournament.
