South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has been his team’s go-to bowler in international cricket and has picked wickets for the Proteas in white-ball cricket. Shamsi, being a left-arm wrist spinner has probably taken over the legacy of veteran South African leg spinner Imran Tahir and has assisted his partner Keshav Maharaj well.

Tabraiz Shamsi was part of the T20I squad for the India vs South Africa series and performed his trademark celebration during the second match of the series. South Africa had won the match by five wickets. Shamsi did a shoe-call celebration after dismissing Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav.

However, in an exclusive conversation with Cricbuzz, Tabraiz Shamsi revealed that he and his wife had to face a lot of online abuse after that celebration. Shamsi stated that the people took it negatively and probably thought that it was disrespectful to the Indian captain.

Tabraiz Shamsi reveals the social media abuse he faced after Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket during T20I series

Tabraiz Shamsi said, “People took it in a negative way; they thought it was disrespectful. I had so much abuse hurled at me. It was probably the worst it’s ever been. There was also abuse hurled at my wife. I didn’t appreciate that. It’s uncalled for. It’s fine if you want to have a dig at the players, but to involve family and say nasty things, that pushes it to another level.”

“I feel that if players don’t say anything about it, then people think they have free licence. More people need to speak up and say it’s not OK. Yes, we’re all trying our best. Yes, your team might not win or you might not agree with certain things. But you need to behave like a human being. You can’t carry on like an animal.”
Tabraiz Shamsi held the shoe in his hand and then took it close to his ear and used it like a telephone after dismissing Suryakumar Yadav. The second IND vs SA T20I match was a rain-affected affair wherein batting first the Indian team had scored 180/7 in 19.3 overs.
South Africa was set a revised total of 154 runs, which they chased down with ease in 13.4 overs with six wickets to spare. However, the Indian team came back strong and won the third T20I match by 106 runs.
After the T20I series ended in a draw, the Indian team was able to take the ODI series 2-1 after winning the first and the third ODI match. The Indian team will now aim to win its first-ever Test series on the South African lands as the first Test match has started from December 26.

The Indian cricket team has never won a Test series in South Africa and has lost the last two series they played here by 2-1. The Indian team has the best chance to end their jinx and create history by winning the two-match Freedom series. The first Test match is being played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
