Veteran Indian batter Virat Kohli has expressed his humility by stating that he does not consider himself the greatest player, despite his outstanding cricket career. Virat Kohli admitted that he does not see himself as the ‘GOAT’ (greatest of all time) in the game.
Virat made his international debut in an ODI match against Sri Lanka in 2008. The right-handed batter went on to become one of the crucial players for India across the formats. He has scored 26,209 runs for India at an average of 54.03, with 78 centuries and 136 fifties.
I’m Not The Greatest – Virat Kohli
In a conversation on Star Sports, Virat Kohli was asked if he considers himself a GOAT. The 34-year-old humbly responded by saying that he doesn’t view himself as the greatest, suggesting that he is not the GOAT.
“You know you’re a GOAT?” the host asked.
“Nah yaar, I’m not that GOAT and all. I’m not the greatest,” Virat Kohli replied.
All eyes are on Virat Kohli during the India-South Africa match in the ICC World Cup 2023 as he celebrates his 35th birthday on Sunday. He has the chance to make his birthday special by equaling the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in ODIs.
Virat Kohli Has Always Been The Same – Rahul Dravid
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Rahul Dravid mentioned that Virat Kohli has appeared relaxed and continues to perform well. Dravid also indicated that Kohli is not overly concerned about his own records but is primarily focused on team success.
“I think Virat’s been really relaxed and as you can see in his performances, you know, batting really well for us, really keen to do well as he always is. So, look, I haven’t noticed anything different. He’s always been the same,” Dravid said.
“He’s always been professional, always been hardworking, always been switched on. So, nothing different. And no, I don’t really think he’s thinking too much about 49 and 50, and probably certainly not about his birthday getting a year older. But no, I think he’s been really focused on winning the tournament and playing some good cricket for us. I think he’s doing that really well,” he added.
The 34-year-old narrowly missed the centuries thrice in the ongoing World Cup as he was dismissed in the 80s and 90s. He has scored 442 runs in 7 matches at an impressive average of 88.40 and a decent strike rate of 89.47, including a century and four half centuries.
