IND vs SA: Virat Kohli Taunts Rohit Sharma After India's Loss To South Africa In Centurion Test

India batting superstar Virat Kohli has opened up on what makes Test cricket the most challenging format in the game. Time and again, the former India captain has reiterated that Test cricket is the pinnacle and has never shied away from calling it his favorite format.

While he is widely regarded as one of the best white-ball players of all time, Virat Kohli’s Test record is also phenomenal. He has excelled as both – a batsman and a captain – in the longest format of the game. So far, the right-handed batsman has scored 8790 runs with the help of 29 centuries and 30 half-centuries in 112 Tests. He averages almost 50 in the red-ball format.

Among active cricketers, only Steve Smith and Joe Root have scored more runs in Test. Virat Kohli is also one of India‘s most decorated captains in Tests. He has also led India in 68 Tests. Of those, India won 40 Tests while losing 17. No Indian captain has more wins in Tests than Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli on Test cricket:

Speaking to Star Sports, Virat Kohli talked about the challenges that the players face in Test cricket. The India batting mainstay stated that, unlike the white-ball format, Test cricket demands character, skill, and temperament for a long period.

“If you are watching the game from an entertainment perspective, it has a very different point of view. But those who play the game know how much character, skill, and temperament are regularly tested in Test cricket.

“The match doesn’t end in a day, not in a few hours. Even if you’ve had a great day, you have to come back the next morning. If your fielding is required, you have to stand in the field the whole day,” he added before speaking more on the demands of Test cricket.

Virat Kohli is currently in South Africa for the ongoing two-match Test series. He was rested for the white-ball series before returning to action during the first Test in Centurion. It was his first game since the World Cup final last month.

The right-handed batsman scored a valiant fifty in the second innings of the game but could not avoid a humiliating defeat for India. South Africa thrashed India by an innings and 32 runs inside three days to take an unassailable lead in the two-match series.
