Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir lauded Indian batter Virat Kohli for his remarkable achievements in ODIs. Mohammad Amir suggested that Virat Kohli might have already surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s records if he had consistently played against weaker teams.

Kohli has displayed exceptional form in the ICC World Cup 2023, amassing 442 runs in 7 innings with an impressive average of 88.40. The right-handed batsman secured his 48th ODI century against Bangladesh. He narrowly missed out on centuries on three occasions.

Virat Kohli Doesn’t Play Against Weaker Teams – Mohammad Amir

Speaking to a local TV channel, Mohammad Amir said that Virat Kohli doesn’t compete against teams like the Netherlands, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe. Amir emphasized that Kohli’s decision has hindered his chances of breaking records.

“Had Virat Kohli played series against Netherlands, Nepal, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe then he would have broken Sachin Tendulkar’s record by now. He doesn’t play against these teams,” Mohammad Amir said.

The Delhi-born cricketer has notched up a century and four half-centuries in the tournament so far. He was dismissed for 85 runs against Australia in the first game. He scored 95 runs and 88 runs against South Africa and Sri Lanka, respectively.

Don’t Know Why People Comparing Virat Kohli – Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir expressed his opinion on the comparison between Kohli and Babar Azam, stating that any such comparison is unwise.

“I don’t know why people keep comparing Virat Kohli [to Babar Azam]; any comparison is stupid. Secondly, you have to look at the player’s intent. He was playing ball-to-ball (against Sri Lanka), and he was trying,” Amir further said.

Kohli added a 189-run partnership with Shubman Gill after the early wicket of Rohit Sharma. He appeared to be on track to equal legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI centuries record of 49. However, he was outfoxed by a slower delivery from Dilshan Madushanka.

Virat will be next seen in action when the Men in Blue take on South Africa in their next match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 2.
