Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has played a very major role in grooming Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj. Siraj destroyed the South African batting lineup in the second Test in Cape Town. South Africa were wrapped up for a mere 55 runs in their first innings in which it was Siraj who picked up a six-wicket haul.
Mohammed Siraj removed big names such as Aiden Markam, Dean Elgar, and Marco Jansen during his spell and wrote the script of South Africa’s nightmare batting performance. After being reduced to 15/4, South African batsman Marco Jansen and Kyle Verreynne were the last hope for the Proteas.
Marco Jansen had played a knock of 84* runs during the first Test and didn’t allow any Indian bowler to build pressure on him. However, the left-handed bowling all-rounder was not able to continue his dream batting form and became the fifth victim of the Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj.

However, Mohammed Siraj was given a dream advice by Indian batsman Virat Kohli who was standing at the second slip to dismiss Marco Jansen. Virat was gesturing Siraj to bowl an inswing from the slips to Jansen. As a result, Siraj followed Virat’s advice and in the end, Jansen ended up edging the ball to wicketkeeper KL Rahul.
Mohammed Siraj ended the first innings with figures of 6/15 in 9 overs and picked up his third five-wicket haul of his Test career. Siraj has been brilliant for the Indian cricket team over the last few years and has turned out to be one of the best fast bowlers in the present time.
The Indian team now will be aiming to put up a massive first innings score on the board against the Proteas and tighten their grip on the match. Team India put up a flop batting show during the first match of the series were bundled to 245 and 131 runs in both the innings.
However, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli showed some grace and shall look to stay at the crease and take India to a solid score. The pressure will also be on skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who will have to provide a good opening start.
Both the batsmen failed to score big in the first Test match whereas Shubman Gill will also have a point to prove after playing some good shots during the second innings of the first Test match.
India have never won a Test series at the Sahara Park Newlands and will aim to record their maiden win at the ground. The Indian team will want to end the South African tour 1-1 and also recover the damage they faced in the World Test Championship 2023-25 standings by losing the first Test.
India will be facing England in a five-match Test series at the end of this month. England are coming to India after a gap of three years and lost the last by 3-1 when they came here. However, it will be Ben Stokes who will be leading England this time whereas Brendon McCullum is the team’s head coach.
