It was a disappointing loss for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup final as they lost to Australia by six wickets in front of over 90,000 Indian fans. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and batsman Virat Kohli, who were probably playing the last ODI World Cup of their international career, were not able to add the ODI World Cup 2023 trophy to their cabinet.

Indian batsman Virat Kohli, who was also named as the Player of the Tournament, smashed 765 runs in the whole tournament from 11 games. Virat slammed three centuries and six half-centuries and was one of the main architects of India’s ruthless campaign throughout the tournament.

Team India won ten games in a row ahead of the final against Australia but fell just one win short of leveling Australia’s massive record of 11 wins in an ODI World Cup.

Apart from the Indian team fans, a lot of Indian players including Mohammed Siraj, Rohit Sharma, and many other players were seen crying after the heartbreaking loss in the final against Australia. Virat Kohli was also one of the players who were disappointed after the loss but was not seen crying following the loss.

However, Virat Kohli’s sadness was clearly visible on his face, and a video of him removing the bails of the stumps after the match went viral on social media. While the whole Australian team was in joy and celebrating after the win, a helpless Kohli was removing the bails of the stumps.

The Indian cricket team were ruthless in the whole 2023 ODI World Cup and defeated teams by totally decimating them in every match. In almost every match, different Indian team players won the Player of the Match award following India’s win.

Virat Kohli won the award twice and also completed his 50 ODI hundreds in the tournament. Kohli became the first-ever player to achieve the record. Kohli achieved the feat in the semi-final match against New Zealand in front of his idol and ‘god of cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record and had leveled it against South Africa at the Eden Gardens.

Virat Kohli played a decent 38 and 75-run knock during the first Test match against South Africa and showcased the brilliance of his form. However, his performance was not enough for the Indian team to win the Centurion Test against the Proteas and they lost the match by an innings and 32 runs.

Now, when India take on South Africa in the New Year’s Test at the Sahara Park Newlands in Cape Town, Virat Kohli would want to start off the new year with a century.

Virat Kohli was the second-highest run scorer of the year 2023 and has scored 2054 runs from 35 matches. Virat has slammed 8 centuries which is the most by any batsman in the year. Virat made a fantastic return to international cricket and has started to slam hundreds in every format once again.
