Temba Bavuma gets injured

South Africa potentially have suffered a major blow as skipper Temba Bavuma walked off the field after injuring himself. The first match of the two-match Test series between Proteas and India is taking place at the Supersport Park in Centurion.

South Africa have been nothing short of exceptional with the ball in the ongoing game. They have made Indian batters dance to their tunes and have made them work hard. While they have looked a class apart so far, injury scare has yet again come to haunt them.

Skipper Teamba Bavuma was on the receiving end of it as his side dealt a blow. It was during the 4th ball of the 20th over when Marco Jansen bowled a full delivery to Virat Kohli on off stump. The batter carved it through extra cover on the drive.

Temba Bavuma, who was stationed at the mid-off chased after it. As he was running, he damaged his hamstrings and in the middle of his sprint was seen limping. He picked the ball in pain and after that physios ran out to attend him.

Temba Bavuma couldn’t walk properly as he looked in immense pain. He walked off the field and had a grim look on his face. Here’s the video of him getting injured and going off the field:

This could be a big blow for South Africa as not only they will lose a proper batter but the captain as well. The seriousness of his injury is yet to be known but it didn’t look great. With the way he walked off, it doesn’t seem he will return to the field soon.

In his place, Dean Elagar, who is playing his last Test series, has taken over the captaincy. The left-hander would be hoping to fill in the shoes of Temba Bavuma and captain the team well. All the eyes would be on him as to how he would rotate his bowlers and put pressure on the batters.

IND vs SA: Temba Bavuma puts India into bat first in Centurion

South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and put India in bat first. The bowlers made sure that they made the captain’s call look great as they bowled some impeccable lines and lengths. On the surface, which has suited bowlers, the hosts have troubled Indian batters a lot.

Kagiso Rabada drew the first blood for his team as he removed skipper Rohit Sharma (5) early with a short ball. After that debutant Nandre Burger was all over the Indian batters as he chipped in picked both the young guys in Yashasvi Jaiswal (17) and Shubman Gill (2).

India were left reeling at 24/3 and it was then when Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer joined hands and bailed the team out of trouble. The duo has played magnificently well and has added over 60 runs for the partnership. They negotiated the tricky phase well and also made sure that they scored runs as well.

The team management would be hoping that both of them stay there for a long and take the team for a respectable first innings total.
