It was not a happy return for Ravindra Jadeja in the Test format as he was dismissed for a duck on Day 1 of India’s first innings in the second Test match. Jadeja was dismissed soon after KL Rahul’s departure and was caught by Marco Jansen at gully.

Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed on the third ball of the 34th over when Lungi Ngidi bowled a bumper and the ball went onto hit Ravindra Jadeja’s gloves and went straight into the hands of Marco Jansen at gully. Jansen had to dive forward to complete the catch.

The Indian team had started off with a bang in reply to South Africa’s first innings score as Indian captain Rohit Sharma hit 13 runs from the first over of Proteas pacer Lungi Ngidi. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal failed again and was dismissed for a duck by Kagiso Rabada.

After the early departure of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma continued his aggressive approach and hit seven fours in his 39-run innings. At last, Rohit was caught at gully by Marco Jansen after a stable knock. Indian batsman Shubman Gill also played some steady shots from the start of the innings and hit 5 fours to hit 36 runs off 55 balls. However, Gill was not lucky enough and was also dismissed by Marco Jansen.

At one end. Virat Kohli once again continued his grand touch and started to play shots from ball 1, Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for a duck by Nandre Burger. India finished at 111/4 at Tea on Day 1.

Continuing to bat after Tea, India’s lower order perished soon, as it was Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada, who started to strike for the Proteas after Nandre Burger. No, Indian batters apart from Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, was able to cross the double digits and they got out in single figures.

The wickets tumbled for India like a deck of cards and from 153/4, they slumped down to 153/10. India’s highest scorer of the first innings was Virat Kohli who scored 48 runs from 59 balls and hit a total of six fours and one six in his whole innings.

India lead by 98 runs in their first innings and now the onus is on the Indian pacers, to wrap up South Africa’s first innings as soon as possible.

South Africa had a nightmare batting performance during the first innings of the Cape Town Test as they were bundled for a mere score of 55 runs. Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj proved to be too much for South Africa as he ended the innings with figures of 6/15 in nine overs. Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar picked up two wickets a piece.

The Indian team are yet to win a Test match in Cape Town since they played their first match at the ground since 1995. The Sahara Park Newlands has become a fortress for South Africa against India, however, in the present situation, any team can win the second Test match, however, India have the most chance of winning the match.
