Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar announced the Best Fielder Medal after the Men in Blue’s 302-run win over Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup 2023. Middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer won the Best Fielder Award for the second time in the marquee tournament.

The team introduced a Best Fielder award, recognizing standout fielders in the dressing room after each match. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer received this honor twice, while Virat Kohli, Shardul Thakur, and Ravindra Jadeja were recognized once for their fielding contributions.

In an Instagram video shared by BCCI, Sachin Tendulkar was brought in by the fielding coach to announce the Best Fielder Award winner. Fielding coach T Dilip praised the team’s extraordinary fielding performance and commended their dedication to maintaining intensity.

“I think before I start anything, I would like to thank everyone because I could see everybody are enjoying and waiting for this. I’ll make it as good as it can be. Guys, I think it was a shock, but the way you guys performed on the field was nothing short of extraordinary. Fantastic, well done!” said Dilip.

“One Special mention to the guys today in the hot sun, people who batted there, when they came back on the field, they made sure that they maintained that intensity. Hats off to everyone.”

The fielding coach praised KL Rahul for his precise positioning and fielding on both sides during matches. He also commended Ravindra Jadeja for his outstanding catches and mentioned that he had a strong feeling that Jadeja would take a brilliant catch during the day.

“To add to our special touch tonight, I think the best fielder award will be declared by a legend who’s a perfect example for cricket excellence. I would like everyone to please come forward and have this. They deserve it,” Dilip added.

Sachin Tendulkar appreciated the team’s initiative of awarding fielding medals as a reflection of their commitment to the country. He expressed his admiration for the brand of cricket they have played and encouraged them to continue their impressive form.

“And that is exactly what the current team is doing by giving fielding medal. It is to me a reflection of your commitment, doing something for your colleague, for your team and for the country,” Tendulkar said.

“I simply loved the brand of cricket that you’ve played so far. It’s been a joy to watch. Awesome guys continue this form. I am not going to say too much. Go out and do what you’re expected to do. You know what I’m trying to say. All the best.”
