India were finally able to register their first win at the Sahara Park Newlands in Cape Town after defeating South Africa by seven wickets in the second Test. While the two-match series was leveled at 1-1, players of both teams came together with the ‘Freedom Trophy’. Indian batsman Virat Kohli who is known for his funny actions on the field once again didn’t leave the opportunity to entertain his fans.
Virat Kohli sat just next to the trophy and was seen showing some funny gestures. The whole Indian team laughed at Virat’s gesture the environment became more ‘jolly’. Virat was the top scorer for India in the first innings and played a knock of 46 runs.

The match was also very special for South African opener Dean Elgar as he played the last international match of his career. Elgar scored a total of 16 runs in his final Test match and scored 14 hundreds throughout his Test career.
The Cape Town Test was an all-bowlers match as it finished within 1.5 days. A total of 23 wickets fell on Day 1 whereas 1o wickets fell on Day 2 until the Indian team won the match. South Africa were blown away by Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah in both the innings.
Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah picked up a six-wicket haul in South Africa’s first and second innings respectively. However, South Africa were provided with a bit of assistance during the second innings as he scored the sixth fastest Test hundred by a South African batsman.
Aiden Markram scored a ton in 99 balls and helped South Africa take a lead of 78 runs in the second innings. However, the target of 79 runs was never going to be enough for South Africa to defend, and at last India won the match by seven wickets.
This was India’s first Test win in Cape Town after 30 years and they have also covered the huge loss they suffered after losing the first Test match. India lost the first match of the series by an innings and 32 runs and they slumped to the sixth spot in the World Test Championship 2023-25 standings.
India have reclaimed their top spot in the World Test Championship 2023-25 points table and would be wanting once again to qualify for the final of the biggest Test event. The Indian team have qualified for the WTC finals twice but have not been able to win a single title.
The Indian team will now be playing against England in its next Test series, which is expected to start on January 25, 2024, in Hyderabad. England will be led by Ben Stokes whereas this will be the first time Brendon McCullum will be England’s head coach in India.
England have changed the way of playing Test cricket since Brendon McCullum took over as the team’s head coach. The three lions have been playing Test cricket in a more aggressive and attacking manner just like the white ball cricket. Since then England have turned out to be brilliant in Test cricket.
