India beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in Colombo on Sunday to win their 8th Asia Cup title. India chased down the target of 51 inside 6.1 overs to win the game by 10 wickets. This is India’s second Asia Cup title win under Rohit Sharma who led the team to the 2018 Asia Cup win as well.
The match was set up by Mohammed Siraj’s brilliant spell of 6/21. Hardik Pandya then came to take three wickets as Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 50. Kusal Mendis top-scored with 17 for the Lankans.
Siraj broke a plethora of records as he picked up his first fifer. He got his first five wickets in just 16 balls which is the joint fastest to that landmark.
The chase was done and dusted inside 6.1 overs with Shubman Gill (27) and Ishan Kishan (23) who added an unbeaten stand of 51 to take India to victory. Gill ended the tournament as the highest run-getter scoring 275 runs at an average of 68.75.
In the end, it was a fairly one-sided final with India thrashing the Lankans on their own den. The pitch at the Premadasa provided early seam and swing for the bowlers and the Indian bowlers led by Siraj took full advantage of it.

In 2000 Coca Cola Champions Trophy Final at Sharjah, Sri Lanka bowled out India for 54 after scoring 299-5, making it the most one-sided final in ODI history.
23 years later in another final, India bowl out Sri Lanka at their home turf in just 15.2 overs for 50 and hand them…

On the flip side, it was a below-par batting performance from the Sri Lankan batters who it seemed did not turn up ready for the game. The batting line-up was literally blown away by a certain Mohammed Siraj.
The Lankans lost wickets in a cluster and did not get any sort of partnership going. While the performance was a clinical one for India ahead of the World Cup, Sri Lanka had a few headaches going into the ICC event.
The Asia Cup title win was a big statement from the Indian team who seemed to have found the right playing combination heading into the World Cup.
After this Asia Cup title win, India play three ODIs against Australia between September 22-27 before venturing into their World Cup campaign from October 8 in Chennai against Australia.
