Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj opened up about his staggering spell in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. He said that his plan was make to a batters drive and it feels like a dream for him.
Mohammed Siraj has been the man for India in the final of the Asia Cup 2023. The fast bowler destroyed the Sri Lanka batting lineup and put his team in the winning position with his dream spell in the summit clash. His rollicking bowling saw his side bundling out the opposition for just 50 runs.
Mohammed Siraj bowled the second over of the game and kick-started his spell with the maiden over. After that, he wreaked havoc across the Sri Lanka batting lineup. He removed 4 wickets in the second over he bowled and added two more wickets to his tally to end with 6 wickets in the high-pressure final of the tournament.
Mohammed Siraj removed Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka, and Kusal Mendis. He returned with the figures of 6/21, which is the second-best in the history of the Asia Cup.
Mohammed Siraj talked about his spell and said that he didn’t get five wickets the last time he played against Sri Lanka but destiny had written something else for him. He added that he didn’t try too much as he was just focusing on swinging the ball. Speaking to broadcasters, he explained:
“Feels like a dream. Last time I did the same against Sri Lanka at Trivandrum. Got four wickets early, couldn’t get the five-for. Realised you get what’s in your destiny. Did not try too much today. I have always looked for swing in white-ball cricket.”
IND vs SL: Wanted to make the batters drive – Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj added that he planned to make batters drive and he wanted to make an impact because he didn’t have success in the last few games. He explained:
“Did not find much in the previous games. But today it was swinging, and I got more wickets with the outswinger. Wanted to make the batters drive.”
Mohammed Siraj registered the fastest-ever 5-wicket haul for India in international cricket. The pacer took just 16 balls to achieve the feat. Hardik Pandya supported him well as he picked three wickets while one belonged to Jasprit Bumrah. Based on their effort they rattled Sri Lanka for low total.
