In what has been the latest development as per the reports in Indian Express, it is learned that one of the members of the newly appointed BCCI selection panel headed by Ajit Agarkar is likely to be removed. The reports suggested that Salil Ankola, who is from West Zone, is under the scanner.
The change might take place because the current selection panel of BCCI has two selectors from the West Zone in Salil Ankola and Ajit Agarkar. The BCCI isn’t keen to have two personnel from the same zone in the selection committee. Agarkar being the chief of the committee is unlikely to be removed therefore clouds would be hovering over the place of Ankola.
The BCCI’s selection committee doesn’t have any members from North Zone. Therefore Salil Ankola is expected to make way for someone from North Zone. If he’s removed by the governing body, it’ll see him getting sacked long before his contract expires, which is after one year.
The reports also suggested that BCCI will put forward the resolution to remove Salil Ankola at their AGM, slated to take place in Goa. The governing body during their meeting is also likely to place a revised cheque for the selection committee.
BCCI appointed the new selection committee after Chetan Sharma was sacked following his sting operation went viral. Ajit Agarkar was appointed as the new chairman of selectors. The committee includes Salil Ankola, Shiv Sunder Das, Subroto Banerjee, and Sridharan Sharath.
