Former India National Cricket Team and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) coach Sanjay Bangar has said that the premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 has been quite magical.
Since making his comeback following an 11-month hiatus, Jasprit Bumrah has been in top-notch form with the ball. He bowled brilliantly in the Ireland T20Is and has continued his form in the Asia Cup. In the continental tournament, he has bowled in two matches and has registered figures of 1/18 and 2/30.
Speaking on Star Sports ahead of the Asia Cup summit clash, Sanjay Bangar said that Bumrah has used all the weapons in his arsenal very well and was hopeful of the pacer remaining fit. He elaborated:
“His bowling has been sort of magical. Whether it is inswing, outswing, coming around the wicket and deceiving the left-handed batters, bowling fast or slower yorkers, he has shown it by bowling all those deliveries.”
“He hasn’t bowled his full 10-over spell until now. The sort of rhythm we have seen in his bowling, we hope his rhythm remains like this and he retains his fitness because when he plays, the Indian team’s bowling sharpness becomes even sharper.”
We definitely need him because of the sort of bowler he is – Piyush Chawla on Jasprit Bumrah
The veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla also lauded Jasprit Bumrah and said that the pacer’s presence makes the Indian bowling unit even stronger as he bowls four to five wicket-taking deliveries in an over. He also said that the batters look to play cautiously when they face Bumrah.
“We definitely need him because of the sort of bowler he is. When he comes to bowl, the batters also play slightly cautiously. They know that generally bowlers bowl two or three wicket-taking balls but he bowls four to five in an over. So it’s necessary for them to be cautious,” he said.
Bumrah will be looking to dominate with the ball when India lock horns with Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo on Sunday.
