Former India player, Sanjay Bangar heaped praise on Shubman Gill ahead of the final match of the Asia Cup 2023 between India and Sri Lanka and said that the youngster has improved a lot as a player.
While speaking to PTI, Sanjay Bangar said that Shubman Gill has grown as a player and showed his worth in the team by performing in overseas matches for the Men in Blue.
The former India player hoped that the 24-year-old opener would continue his stupendous form in the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023 which will take place in India. Bangar also stated that his partnership with India skipper, Rohit Sharma will play an important role since the duo offers a combination of youth and experience.
“Gill has grown a lot as a player, and he has shown what he can do as a batsman in overseas matches too. The World Cup is at home, and I hope he continues in the same fashion. His partnership with Rohit is important for the team because they offer that mix of youth and experience,” Sanjay Bangar said.

Bangar said that it is important for Shubman Gill to perform in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 final match since it will help him to boost confidence before the ODI World Cup 2023.
The former player said that Asia Cup is a tough tournament and winning it will be a big achievement for the Men in Blue and will help them to prepare for the upcoming extravaganza tournament.
“It is really important because it will be a confidence booster entering a tournament like the World Cup. After all, there is nothing like winning a big title and going into the World Cup. It is an important part of the preparation.
“It is in ODI format, and the pitches are pretty much similar to India, and all the teams from the sub-continent are playing here. Asia Cup is a tough tournament and the level of competition is very high. We have seen some closely contested matches here, and it is an ideal preparation ahead of the World Cup,” he added.
India will face off against Sri Lanka in the final match of the Asia Cup 2023 on Sunday (September 17th) at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
