While Team India are having a stunning campaign in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Shreyas Iyer has started to feel the pressure. While most of India’s players have been doing extremely well in the competition, his performance has left a lot to be desired.

His performance in pressure situations has invited a lot of criticism. In India’s World Cup opener against Australia, he walked out after the team made a poor start with the bat. And he did very little to improve the team’s position as he played a rash shot to depart for a duck.

He did score a fifty against Pakistan but India were hardly under any pressure while chasing 192 when he came out to bat. And in India’s last outing, he failed to bail the team out of trouble again. India were off to a poor start against England and the right-handed batter departed for just 4 to leave the team reeling at 40 for 3.

Recent media reports also suggest that Shreyas Iyer could be the player to make way for Hardik Pandya once the allrounder returns after recovering from the ankle injury. With Suryakumar Yadav performing well under pressure against England, Shreyas Iyer is under pressure to deliver with the bat.

Another poor outing could very well lead to his axing from the playing XI. And it looks like the Mumbai star is well aware of that as he sweated it out in the nets for hours ahead of the upcoming game against Sri Lanka. According to a report in CricketNext, the right-handed batsman batted for more than two hours in the nets. He also practiced against short deliveries which have caused a lot of trouble for him in his career so far.

He was dismissed on short balls in his last two outings. The report added that the Indian batter constantly pulled the deliveries in the air and did not even try to keep them grounded. The plan was to keep hitting them in the air and get better at doing that. The batter also spoke with the coaches on numerous occasions.
