Reputed commentator Aakash Chopra feels that Washington Sundar will be part of India’s playing XI in the Asia Cup 2023 final. Washington Sundar has been inducted into India’s squad as a replacement for Axar Patel.
Axar Patel suffered an injury in the previous India vs Bangladesh match. While batting, the left-handed batsman faced multiple blows on his wrist for forearms. As a result, he was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023 final.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, former India opener Aakash Chopra said that Washington Sundar might play in the IND vs SL Asia Cup 2023 final.
“The breaking news is that Washington Sundar has been sent to Sri Lanka. He has already landed. You might see him playing in the final as well. He is completely out of the box because there is a slight injury concern for Axar Patel,” the 45-year-old said.
Aakash Chopra also listed the reason why Sundar might be part of the team during the IND vs SL final. According to Chopra, Team India needs an off-spinner in the match.
“You might see Washington Sundar playing because another spinner should be played here and we are missing an off-spinner as well. There will be changes in this team. They rested everyone in the last match. Now there is no need to rest, this is the final,” the cricket-turned-commentator further said.
Washington Sundar’s selection is only limited to the Asia Cup 2023 final. Since he is part of the Asian Games 2023, he will not replace Axar Patel in the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2023 in October.
The 23-year-old player has played 16 ODIs in his career. He accounts for 233 runs across 9 innings at an average of 29.12. The right-arm spinner has also hunted 16 scalps averaging 27.19. He last played an ODI game in January this year.
Meanwhile, the India vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup 2023 final takes place on Sunday, September 17 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The men-in-blue crushed Sri Lanka in their earlier clash in Super Four round. However, they need to outplay Sri Lanka once again to grab the trophy.
