The 28-year-old India National Cricket Team left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav delivered an exceptional performance with the ball for his side in the fourth match of Asia Cup 2023 Super Four stage against Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday, September 12.

Kuldeep Yadav was once again very good with his lines and lengths and he started the demolition after he received a crucial piece of advice from wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul.

He started off by picking the wicket of in-form Sadeera Samarawickrama and followed it with yet another crucial wicket of Charith Asalanka.

After that, he bowled staggeringly well but wasn’t able to get wickets until the 42nd over. As Sri Lanka were reduced to 172/8, Rohit handed the ball to Kuldeep Yadav with the hope that he would dismiss the tailenders and wrap up the innings quickly and he did exactly that.

On the first ball of the 42nd over, he knocked over Kasun Rajitha’s stumps with a superb googly and then rattled the stumps of Matheesha Pathirana on the third ball. With this, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 172, handing India a 41-run win. Also, Kuldeep Yadav completed 150 ODI wickets and India qualified for the Asia Cup 2023 final.

KL Rahul Opens Up On His Tip To Kuldeep Yadav

Speaking after India’s victory, KL Rahul said that they were tested physically while playing the match on the third straight day in the Asia Cup 2023. He said:

“It was amazing, we were trusted throughout. We were not on the field for 100 overs but how many ever overs we were there it tested us physically, great to see we turned up today and gave it our best. We turned up and that is a big tick mark for us as a team.”

KL Rahul said that he was delighted to contribute to his team and build a good 63-run partnership with Ishan Kishan. KL Rahul said:

“Always happy when I contribute to the team, when you are batting in the middle order it is important to build partnerships. I have been out for 4-5 months, I will take anything that comes, it was a crucial partnership with Kishan. Third day in a row playing at the same venue, bit of spin but we managed it really well, we were 20-30 runs short, few more partnerships could have got us to 230-240.”

KL Rahul was also asked about the tip he gave to Kuldeep Yadav before the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama. He said:

“When you are behind the stumps, you have a good idea as to what the batter is doing and I just passed on the message, luckily it worked for Kuldeep.”
