Ravindra Jadeja took a brilliant catch at point to dismiss Pathum Nissanka in the fourth over to give Mohammed Siraj his first wicket of the final. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first in the Asia Cup 2023 final.
The side is tottering having already lost four wickets just into the fourth over of the innings. Siraj first took the wicket of Nissanka who played an aerial shot and was caught by Jadeja who is India’s best fielder.
On the very next ball, he trapped Sadeera Samarawickrama with a brilliant in-dipper. Umpire Richard Illingworth gave it out instantly and the decision was upheld by the television umpire.

On his very next ball, Siraj dismissed Charith Asalanka who chipped one straight to cover. He was in utter disbelief at the shot he played with Ishan Kishan completing an easy catch at slips.
He had a chance to pick up a hattrick but he could not as Dhananjaya de Silva struck him for a four. However, he had his revenge in his very next ball as he dismissed the batter edging him off to the wicketkeeper KL Rahul.
The over from Siraj thus ended with four wickets as Sri Lanka lost half their side inside the first five overs. Still early days in the game, but India are looking favourites to win the match. Sitaj has a chance to make further inroads and pick up a fifer.
India defeated Sri Lanka in their previous Super 4 game which was a low-scoring thriller. In the final, they now have a big foot forward dismissing five Sri Lankan wickets for literally nothing on the board.
