Former Sri Lanka pace spearhead Chaminda Vaas has revealed his pick to replace Rohit Sharma as Team India’s Test captain. While Rohit’s captaincy is not under any threat as of now, it would not be wrong to say that he would not be leading the team for long.

At 36, Rohit is not getting any younger and the selectors must be trying to find out players to replace him as the next Test captain. Many believe that wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant could be a good option. Pant, who is currently recovering after the horrific car accident last year, is an integral part of the Test team and has proved his worth by doing extremely well in Tests so far.

Pant has captaincy experience too thanks to leading Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Shubman Gill is another option while many see allrounder Ravindra Jadeja as a potential candidate too for the immediate future. Only time will tell who finally replaces Rohit Sharma.

Chaminda Vaas reveals his pick:

As the Indian cricket fraternity continues to debate over who should replace Rohit Sharma as the Test captain, Chaminda Vaas has revealed his pick. Talking to the Republic, the Sri Lanka great has said that Shreyas Iyer would be the best candidate to replace Rohit as India’s next Test captain. Chaminda Vaas was all praise for Iyer’s batting and leadership skills.

“Shreyas Iyer will be the best captain. In his first Test, he scored a hundred and he has good leadership skills. The way I see it, he can handle the team. He will be the best option going forward,” said Chaminda Vaas.

Iyer is a key member of India’s Test and ODI teams and he has good captaincy experience too. The right-handed batsman has led Delhi Capitals and is currently the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. As of now, he is sidelined with an injury and is expected to return to action soon. Iyer has not played a competitive match since suffering a back injury during the Ahmedabad Test against Australia in March.
