The Fab Four debate has been reignited after Virat Kohli’s century in the ongoing second Test between India and West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.

The Fab Four is short for ‘Fabulous Four’ and is a popular term used to club together four batsmen- Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson, widely considered by many as the greatest batsmen of this generation. Many believed that Virat Kohli has fallen behind the other three after his failure to score big in recent times.

However, the former India skipper has turned things around in remarkable fashion. He has not looked back since ending his three-year century drought with his maiden T20 century against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup. He has been in sublime form in the ongoing series against West Indies too.

Dinesh Karthik on Virat Kohli’s Test century tally:

Virat Kohli scored 76 runs in the first Test before playing a fine knock of 121 runs in the first innings of the ongoing second Test. One of the reasons many believed that the India star was behind the likes of Steve Smith and Joe Root in Tests is because of his failure to score centuries consistently in the last couple of years or so. At present, he has 29 centuries in Tests while Root and Smith have 30 and 32 centuries respectively.

And veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has explained the reason behind it. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Karthik explained why Kohli has fewer Test hundreds than Root and Smith.

“Virat Kohli plays all three formats, and that is going to take a toll on his body. Whereas Joe Root and Steve Smith just play the two formats a lot more, ODIs and Test cricket. Both Australia and England sometimes end up playing more Test cricket than India, so that gives them the best chance of ending up with a lot more hundreds.

“But knowing the man and the kind of discipline that he is showing across the board in various countries, he could easily end up as the highest Test hundred-run-getter in the world, if not the fab four,” said Virat Kohli.
