Apart from his batting, Virat Kohli has also become a big inspiration for cricketers around the world with his fitness. The former India skipper has been credited by many as the one who brought the culture of fitness to the Indian team.
Virat Kohli was not the fittest of cricketers when he began his international career in 2008 and had a chubby face. But later in his career, he decided to transform himself and has been an inspiration for others since then. The batting superstar showed his exemplary fitness once again in the ongoing second Test against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad as he scored a fine century.

Playing his 500th international match, Virat Kohli was at his best fitness-wise as he ran hard for his runs and rescued India after they suffered a mini-collapse. The right-handed batsman scored 121 runs before being run out by Alzarri Joseph. Thanks to his knock and fifties from Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, India finished their first innings on 438.
India fielding coach praises Virat Kohli:
After the second day’s play, India fielding coach T Dilip was all praise for Virat Kohli’s fitness. Dilip said that the batting superstar continues to set the bar high when it comes to fielding and fitness. He also said that Virat Kohli’s fitness has benefitted the youngsters too.
“He walks the talk when it comes to fitness,” Dilip in a post-match press conference.
“It mainly comes down to his discipline and how he takes care of himself. It has been 10 years and he is the most attacking fielder. It rubs off well on the youngsters. Everybody looks up to him – not just our team, but everybody in the world – A person like him, running around and attacking the ball so well,” he added.
Speaking further, Dilip praised Virat Kohli for the way he resumed his innings on day two. The India star was on 87 at the start of the play and did not take long to reach his 29th Test ton and 76th in international cricket.
“A good part of a player is how consistently he scores. He has continued his form from the last match into this,” Dilip said.
“He did not start off with flamboyant drives right away. He had to grind as he did in the first game. His application was fantastic, at the same time his temperament on that wicket…there were spells where the West Indies bowlers came good and he respected them. When he had to capitalize, he did that. Overall, the way he paced his innings was fantastic,” Dilip added.
Meanwhile, West Indies have started well with the bat. At stumps, they were on 86 for 1 as they look to win the game and avoid a series defeat against India.
