IND vs WI: Fans Slam Ishan Kishan After He Tries To Stump Rovman Powell In Controversial Manner

Ishan Kishan has come into the direct firing line of the fans after trying to dismiss Rovman Powell in a contentious manner during the second T20I between India and West Indies in Guyana.

Trailing the series after the loss in the first T20I, India decided to bat first after Hardik Pandya won the toss. The Men in Blue started poorly with the bat once again as they lost Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav inside the powerplay. A fighting fifty from Tilak Varma then helped the tourists post a competitive total of 152 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs.

For the second game in a row, Varma top-scored for India as he scored 51 off 41 deliveries with the help of 5 fours and 1 six. Captain Hardik Pandya also played a crucial knock of 24 runs. For West Indies, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, and Romario Shepherd picked up two wickets apiece.

Ishan Kishan tries to dismiss Rovman Powell:

West Indies’ chase got off to a terrible start as Brandon King and Johnson Charles were dismissed by Hardik Pandya in the very first over. Kyle Mayers departed during the powerplay too. However, Nicholas Pooran was batting well at the other end and kept West Indies in a decent position.

In the final over of the powerplay, he shifted the momentum in his team’s favor by hitting his IPL teammate Ravi Bishnoi for 18 runs. And as the momentum shifted towards West Indies, Ishan Kishan tried to turn things around for his team albeit in a controversial fashion.

Right after the powerplay, Yuzvendra Chahal was introduced into the attack and the leg-spinner began by bowling a wide delivery down the leg side. Powell tried to play a leg glance but failed to make any contact with the ball. In doing so, he overbalanced although he had managed to keep his back foot grounded. Usually, the players lift their back foot after such a situation to recover their balance.

Anticipating something similar from the West Indies captain, Ishan Kishan patiently waited for him to raise his back foot so that he could stump him. Powell did raise his leg but brought it down even before Kishan could stump him. And while Kishan did not do anything that was against the laws of the game, his action has not gone down well with some fans. Here are some of the reactions:
