Meanwhile, India suffered a 4-run loss in the first T20I against West Indies. The Men in Blue failed to chase down 150 runs in the series opener. Batting first, the home side scored 149 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. Captain Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran impressed with the bat for West Indies. While Powell scored 48, Pooran scored 41.

For India, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up two wickets apiece. In reply, India were off to a poor start as their openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan failed to get going. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya spent some time in the middle and got the starts but failed to capitalize. India eventually finished their innings on 145 for 9.

Towards the end of the game, Arshdeep Singh revived India’s slim hopes by hitting Obed McCoy for two fours in the 19th over but could not take the team over the line. For the visitors, debutant Tilak Varma was the top-scorer, scoring 39 off 22 balls. For West Indies, McCoy, Jason Holder, and Romario Shepherd picked up two wickets apiece.
