Former Pakistani cricketer Salman Butt gave his verdict on whether Virat Kohli should adopt a fearless approach like Joe Root in Tests. He said that Indian batter is much superior and he doesn’t think he needs to do anything different.

England have adopted the fearless approach in Test cricket and their Bazball approach has taken world cricket by storm. Even a class batter like Joe Root has changed his style and is cashing in every opportunity to score runs, smashing fours and sixes consistently.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli has been struggling to get going in the Tests for the last few months. But he recently smashed a magnificent century and seems to be getting in the groove in the longest format of the game.

Recently Salman Butt was asked by a fan whether Virat Kohli can adapt to aggressive gameplay as seamlessly as Joe Root. Replying to this, the former Pakistan cricketer pointed out that India shouldn’t look at what England are doing as they like to play the ball on its merit. Speaking on his youtube channel, he said:

“If all of your friends are doing something and you aren’t, you will eventually pick some habits from them because you’re eventually playing with them. Indian batters, both new and old, like to play the ball on its merit. There would only be one or two players who play very aggressively, whereas England’s culture has become going out-of-the-box.”

Giving his verdict on Virat Kohli’s comparison with Joe Root, he said that the Indian batter is completely opposite to what English players are. He explained:

“If someone plays defensively, he looks out-of-the-box. It’s the opposite in India. I don’t think Virat Kohli needs to do anything like that. He’s a much superior player.”

Virat Kohli played a stellar innings of 121 runs against West Indies in the ongoing second Test. Whereas on the other hand, Joe Root has been going through fine form in the ongoing Ashes 2023.
