IND vs WI: Hope To See On-Field Performance More Than Off-Field - Makarand Waingankar's Shocking Revelation About Prithvi Shaw

Former cricket administrator Makarand Waingankar made a shocking revelation about young Indian batter Prithvi Shaw. He opened up about how he managed to get a county cricket for the batter with difficulty. 

Prithvi Shaw is all set to travel to England for the county stint next month. He will join Northamptonshire for the red-ball games and then the 50-over domestic tournament. It is learned that he has been advised by the BCCI to fine-tune his skills and get some game time.

Prithvi Shaw has been in the talks for a while now for his off-field antics. He was engaged in a fight with social media influencer Sapna Gill and the case has been managed by the police. The young batter had a decent Ranji Trophy, scoring 595 runs in 6 matches but he had a torrid IPL season, where he scored just 106 runs.

Prithvi Shaw then had a decent outing in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy 2023. He scored 123 in two games with his best coming in the final. The opening batter in tough conditions scored 65 runs in the first innings but could only manage 7 runs in the second innings of the final against South Zone.

Meanwhile, Makarand Waingankar revealed that he found a county contract for Prithvi Shaw after talks with various cricket clubs and he hopes to see his performances on the field rather than off-field videos. Taking to his Twitter account, he said: 

“With great difficulty, I managed to get a county contract for Prithvi Shaw for Northants after speaking to half a dozen counties. I only hope I get to read his on-field performance more than off-the-field videos.”

IND vs WI: “I kept thinking about the first match,” Prithvi Shaw on his poor IPL campaign 

Prithvi Shaw had his worst season in the IPL as in 8 games he managed 106 runs at a poor average of just 13.25 and a strike rate of 124.52. His best performance came in DC’s second-last game against Punjab Kings where he scored a half-century. 

Prithvi Shaw while talking about his poor campaign in the IPL admitted that he kept thinking about the first game and in the meantime three matches had passed. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he explained: 

“Those few innings [at the start of IPL 2023] went in a flash. [While] I kept thinking about the first match, I quickly realised three matches had passed. The learning was once the match is done, just leave it there. You can’t do anything about it, it’s history. You have to keep moving forward.”

Prithvi Shaw last played for India in July 2021 and after that, he hasn’t featured in the XI. The opening batter was part of the team for the New Zealand T20Is but he didn’t make the cut into the XI. Following that he had a poor IPL and was dropped from the team for the upcoming West Indies T20Is. It’s fair to say that he might be in the plans for the team in the future and that’s why the governing body has asked him to work on his technique.
