Virat Kohli broke several records as he scored his 76th international century in his 500th international match for Team India. He scored 212 as India dominated on day 2 and reached 438 in their first innings.

Kohli broke a string of records during his knock. He overtook Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 75 international tons in his first 500 international innings for India. He also surpassed Brian Lara’s tally of 24 Test tons at number four, Kohli now has 25.

Kohli reached his century in 180 balls which was an example of the concentration he had put in. He walked out to bat in a tricky situation on day one when India had lost four wickets in quick succession. Kohli took his time and build his innings accordingly.

This was Virat Kohli’s 15th Test ton in overseas conditions and the first since his century against Australia in Perth in 2018. To add to that it was Kohli’s 12 international century against the Windies in international cricket. He overtook AB D Villies’ tally of 11 international tons against them. Only Sunil Gavaskar is ahead of him now with 13 international centuries against West Indies.

Former Indian selector and BCCI’s General Manager (Cricket Operations) Saba Karim made his observation regarding Kohli’s 29th Test ton saying that he has worked hard for it and he sees a new version of the Indian batter after this knock.

Huge Relief For Virat Kohli: Saba Karim

“A huge relief for Virat Kohli. He really had to work hard for this. I see a new version of Virat Kohli now. If you see in this innings, in fact even in the last Test match, he is willing to bide his time, he is willing to take his time, he took around 20 balls to get off the mark,” Karim said on JioCinema.

“He loves to get off the mark quickly, he loves to get those boundaries, but here, he had to exercise a lot of patience. He dances to his own music, you can call him insane, but that’s called by those who don’t understand his music” Saba Karim said further.

This was Kohli’s second test ton this year having scored 186 against Australia in Ahmedabad in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Since the Asia Cup 2022, Kohli has scored 595 runs in Test matches at an average of 49.58 including two hundreds.
